Are there any pumpkin patches in your area? Children absolutely love the opportunity to tramp around the pumpkin patch and choose their very own Jack-o-Lantern to be. Once you have gotten your pumpkin harvest home, spread newspapers all around and let each child scoop out the inside of their pumpkin after you have cut the top off. Provide each child with a large marker so that they can draw the face on their pumpkin and write their name on the back. They can then take it home and ask their parents to help them with the rest of the carving.

While all this activity is taking place, you can be soaking the seeds for roasted pumpkin seeds

A trip to an apple orchard will yield apples for that perennial Halloween favorite, Bobbing for Apples.

How about having a Halloween Yard Decorating party? Let the children build scarecrows, decorate with corn stalks, pumpkins, hang witches and ghosts in the trees and anything else their imagination allows.

Do you live where you can have a bonfire? There will never be a better atmosphere for ghost stories, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.

A hayride is the ultimate Halloween activity to top off the evening. A flatbed truck with some hay bales is almost as good as the real thing. Sing Halloween songs as you go.
